The Junior Friends of the Southbury Library are volunteers from the 4th to 12th grade. They meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm. The Junior Friends assist in the Children’s and Teen Departments. Duties include book shelving and sorting, holiday decorating and craft activities. They also enjoy movie or game nights and holiday parties. In June, they have an annual mini-golf tournament.
The Junior Friends also provide service to the Southbury community and the world at large through bake sales, read-a-thons, book sales and talent shows. They have contributed to the American Red Cross, battered women’s shelters, the Southbury Food and Fuel Banks, Ronald McDonald House, St. Vincent de Paul homeless shelter, Animals for Life, the Walter Reed Hospital to honor wounded veterans, Children to Children Non Profit Foundation, and the Robotics Club at Pomperaug High School.
Children and teens from all towns are welcome to join the Junior Friends. To join, simply call the library at (203) 262-0626, ext. 3.
