The Southbury Library will present a Local Author Open House

June 23, 2013 from 2-4pm

The Local Author Open House creates a relaxed environment for patrons and authors to interact. Authors can chat, sell, sign, mix and mingle with patrons and patrons can meet the faces behind the books.

13 local authors are participating this year. Books are available for purchase directly from the authors. Authors are available for book signings and one-on-one book talks. For more information click here

Home of the Brave

The Southbury Library will be showing Home of the Brave: When Southbury Said No to the Nazis

Tuesday, June 25th at 7pm in the Kingsley Room

Following the film, another short movie about how Southbury recently commemorated the halting of the Nazi Training Camp will be shown.

In 1937, the German American Bund planned to build the largest training camp in the United States in Southbury, Connecticut. When locals realized the intent of the Bund was to promote the anti-Semitic policies of the Nazis they protested and prevented the building of the camp.

Following the films, will be a question and answer session with the creator of both films, Scott Sniffen, along with Rabbi Eric Polokoff of B’nai Israel, Reverend Shannon Rye Wall from the South Britain Congregational Church, Father Joseph Donnelly from Sacred Heart Church, Reverend Walter Pitman from The United Church of Christ, First Selectman Ed Edelson, Joyce James, President of the Southbury Historical Society and others from the community.

Public Fax Machine Now Available

A self-service public fax machine is available for use in the Reference Department. This is a pay service for out-going faxes only.

Patrons may use a credit or debit card. The fax machine service takes VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Domestic Charges are $1.50 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page.

Your card will be charged when your fax has been successfully transmitted. For any questions, contact the Reference Department at (203) 262-0626×130.

Lunch Bunch program

Kindles & Nooks

Kindles & Nooks can now be checked-out for 2 weeks!

Patrons must be 18 years of age and a Southbury resident with a current library card to borrow a Kindle or Nook and agree to a Borrower’s Agreement before checking out an E-Reader.

Electricity Monitors
