Friends of the Southbury Public Library College Scholarship 2011

In order to further our support for the community, the Friends of the Southbury Public Library has created an annual scholarship awarded to a Southbury graduating high school student continuing their education at an accredited institute of higher learning. Since its creation in 2007, this annual scholarship reflects the Friend of the Library's commitment to academics, literature, and community service. Thus, each spring, the Friends of the Library will award $1,000.00 to a deserving Southbury senior based on the following criteria:

Applicant will submit a written essay answering a question designated by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library. This written essay will be weighed heavily in determining who the recipient of the scholarship is but grades, association with the Southbury Public Library, community service, and other extracurricular activities will be taken into account.

This year the question that must be satisfactorily answered is, "Discuss how the Southbury Public Library or a particular book has influenced your life."

The Deadline for the Friends of the Library Scholarship is Thursday, April 7, 2011.

Submit your application and essay to the reference desk at the Southbury Public Library or to the career center at Pomperaug High School.
