The Southbury Public Library
   

The Southbury Library offers several opportunities for teens to volunteer. Join one of our library service groups or schedule a specific time to volunteer. Duties include shelving, preparing crafts, cleaning and organizing. Please ask a librarian for more details and a registration form. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old.

WANTED: Creative and energetic teens to discuss ideas for library materials, programs and special events. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 and would like to make a difference join the Teen Advisory Board.

T.A.B. duties include:

  • Planning fun and interesting teen programming
  • Creating a fun and inviting teen environment
  • Seeking volunteer opportunities
  • Assisting in collection selection and new additions
  • Meeting new friends and having a positive experience


  • The Junior Friends of the Southbury Library are volunteers from the 4th to 12th grade. They meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00pm.

    At every other meeting the Junior Friends assist in the Children's and Young Adult Departments helping out. Duties include book shelving, holiday decorating and craft activities.

    On alternate months, the Junior Friends enjoy movie or game nights and holiday celebrations. In June they have an annual mini-golf tournament.

    The Junior Friends also provide service to the community through bake sales, read-a-thons, and book sales. They have contributed to the American Red Cross, women's shelters, the Southbury Food and Fuel Banks, Ronald McDonald House, St. Vincent de Paul shelter, Animals for Life and wounded veterans.
