Event Details

Many people do not realize that there are endangered species even here in CT! Join the White Memorial Conservation Center for a discussion on what local species are considered in peril, why they’re each important, and what we can do to help them. We'll also hear success stories of animals coming back from the brink of extinction due to our conservation efforts. Plus, you’ll get to meet a couple of live creatures up close and personal, and play some fun interactive games!

Our live animal guests will include Dottie the Spotted Turtle, pictured.

The White Memorial Conservation Center (WMCC) is an environmental education center and nature museum located in the heart of the 4,000-acre White Memorial Foundation in the hills of northwestern Connecticut. The WMCC provides year-round environmental education programs for all ages that inspire understanding, appreciation, and respect for the natural world. They are directed by four guiding principles: conservation, education, recreation, and research.

Did you know that the library has a Museum Pass to the White Memorial Conservation Center that you can borrow for free admission for 2 adults and 4 children (ages 6-12)? This museum pass checks out for three days and is available on a first come, first served basis from the Children's Department Circulation Desk.

This event and our museum passes are sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library. Like all teen programs, this event is free to attend and open to residents of any town in Grades 6-12. Registration is required.
