Children

Welcome to the Children’s Department

The Children’s Department of the Southbury Library provides a safe, nurturing and culturally stimulating environment for children and caregivers that encourages lifelong reading and learning.

Located on the second floor, we feature a circulation desk with library assistants to check out books, offer readers’ advisory assistance and place materials on hold. We are eager to assist you with any inquiries. A self-checkout station is available for simple transactions. Our library knight, Sir Read-A-Lot, is always at attention to watch over the day’s events.

We have puzzles, pictures to color, and a cornucopia of developmentally appropriate toys for our children to enjoy in our preschool area.

For our older children, we have a bank of computers for academic and recreational needs. Log on with a valid library card.

We offer a Drop-In Storytime year-round as well as seasonal sessions for a variety of ages. Children are encouraged to participate in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. Other programs for elementary age children include STEAM and STEM, arts & crafts, music, movies and more.

The Friends of the Southbury Library have purchased passes for a variety of area museums that are available for checkout to Southbury patrons over 18 years of age. For a list of museums & discount information check the Museum Passes page.
