The assassination of President John F. Kennedy stunned a nation and, short-circuited, perhaps, the potential of younger candidates seeking to occupy the Oval Office and change the course of the nation.  This presentation will review the course of America from 1945 to 1965.  It will showcase the drift towards centralized power coming off being the big winner of Man's greatest Industrialized, Total War, 1914-1945.  Such aspects as the Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missile Crisis, U.S.-Soviet relations, America's unchallengeable position as number one global power, which will begin to erode with the Second Indochina War.  Just what affect did this and the removal of Ngo Dinh Diem (assassinated, too, just several weeks before JFK) as President of South Vietnam, have on the decisive course of Executive Action taken in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

Mark Albertson is the historical research editor for the Army Aviation magazine, and the historian for the Army Aviation Association of America. He has taught classes on military history at Norwalk Community College as well as the Lifetime Learners Institute. Albertson has authored several books on military history.
