The Rutledge Summer Series Presents:

It's a Queer World After All!: The State of LGBT Rights Around the Globe -- Past, Present, and Future

In this talk, Lambda Legal CEO (and Southbury resident!) Kevin Jennings will discuss the state of LGBT rights around the world, focusing on countries outside our borders.  Beginning with some surprising history of the modern LGBT movement's origins in 19th century Germany, Kevin will trace its development to today, when the worldwide climate varies wildly from countries which have had an out lesbian and out gay man as Prime Ministers (Iceland in 2009 and Ireland in 2017, respectively) to ones where being LGBT is grounds for capital punishment (12 nations).  Come learn about how where you were born can completely change the course of your life if you're lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. Registration is required. Zoom invitation links will be sent via email on the day of the program. Please visit the link below for more information and to register.
