Georgia Sheron Commemorative September 2023 Exhibit at Southbury Public Library

The Gloria Cachion Gallery at the Southbury Public Librarywill showcase  the photography of the late Georgia Sheron. This exhibit is part of a year-long series of special events to celebrate 350 years of community, culture and history (1673-2023) of Southbury.

Georgia Sheron was a member of Professional Photographers of America and holds their certificate as a Master Photographic Craftsman. She was a five-time winner of the Kodak Award of Excellence and the Fuji Masterpiece Award and was twice the recipient of Master Photographer of the Year. Her work graced the cover of Professional Photographer magazine as well as many book covers for Random House and CD covers for musicians.

Ms. Sheron also had fine honed her photography skills and had other photographs from traveling to Italy, St. Croix, and Monhegan Island, Maine as well. Georgia passed away in late January 2019 and was greatly respected by her peers and the public. We’d like to celebrate and honor her for all she has done for the Southbury community.

The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am to 9:00pm, Saturdays 9:30am to 4:00pm, and Sundays 12:00pm to 5:00pm.

The Gloria Cachion Art Gallery, adjacent to the lobby, is an open two-story area along with the Brown Conference Room that showcases in-house and online exhibitions. It is available principally for local artists on a monthly rotation to present their work.

The Gallery was dedicated in May 2011 featuring the "Uncle John" Ludorf Collection photographed by Georgia Sheron.  This collection donated by Connie and Jack Hume is on display throughout the library as part of its permanent collection.
