Southbury Library’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest.

Have you been to the Southbury Library lately? Now’s a great time to check us out and vote on our Pumpkin Contest!

Staff made pumpkins will be on display starting Friday the 13th and winners will be out until October 31st. Voting is open to the public, we’d love to see you. Voting ends October 27th.

Meet our new Head Librarian, Heather Szaley Aronson!

You may recognize Heather as she’s worked at the Southbury Public Library since 2003. Starting as a volunteer, Heather decided the library was the place for her and has been everything from circulation assistant to Head of Youth Services.  A life-long Connecticut resident, she holds a Master of Arts from the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut and a Master of Library and Information Sciences from Drexel University.

Town Poet Laureate Program Starting in Southbury

The Southbury Public Library and Sustainable Southbury have partnered to create a Town Poet Laureate program! 

Many towns and the state of Connecticut have Poet Laureate programs where candidates submit their work for review by a panel of judges and the winner represents the respective town or state, while promoting poetry and literacy. Regarding adding a Poet Laureate to Southbury, First Selectman Jeff Manville said “Art and culture are an important part of our community and a Town Poet Laureate would be a welcome addition to our community."

DVD Fines Return January 2022

DVDs, Museum/Park Passes, and Kindles that are checked out beginning on Sunday, January 2, 2022 will accrue late fines if they are overdue ($1/day for movies and $2/day for Museum Passes and Kindles; no renewals for either). Fines accrued on Southbury Library items between March 2020-December 2021 will still be forgiven (as will fines from any extenuating circumstances). We still won't charge fines on books, audiobooks, or CDs that are overdue but encourage you to renew these if you are keeping past their due dates.
