Toniebox Kits are now available to borrow!

We are excited to announce that Toniebox Kits can be borrowed from the library! Tonieboxes are new and innovative audio players that are great for bedtime stories, music, and education. It’s a screen-free listening experience that inspires your kids’ imagination!

Each kit comes with a Toniebox and several Tonie characters. There is no downloading or Wi-Fi required, making them a source of fun, portable entertainment! Stop by the Youth Services circulation desk to browse the selection of kits.

Improved Text Message Notifications with Shoutbomb!

Text notifications for hold items and due date reminders have been improved and are now available to all mobile carriers, including AT&T! Shoutbomb is Bibliomation's new text messaging service. It is more reliable than our last texting service, and offers the ability to text certain keywords and get information about due dates, hold statuses, and more. American Red Cross Blood Drive at Heritage Hotel

The Heritage Hotel is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and Monday, April 14, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Blood donation is the most common type of donation, during which approximately a pint of 'whole blood' is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour.

Online Library Card Applications

Fill out an online library card application, and pick up your library card during certain off-site events! You can use your card for any of our online resources, or at any other public library in Connecticut. Once you fill out the form, you will get an email when your card is ready, with information about how to get started with online resources right away and how to pick up your physical card. When you do pick up your card, we will need to verify your Southbury address with a piece of mail, updated license, or anything else with your name and address on it.

Flood Recovery Updates

Greetings! We want to update the public on the status of the Southbury Public Library. 

The basement is currently being cleaned out professionally. This is a huge undertaking and requires time and patience in order to mitigate health and safety concerns. The main floors of the library proper are secure and undamaged by flood waters. With the safety of our collection in mind, provisions are in place to moderate temperature and humidity in the building. Once the basement is clear, we can assess all the systems necessary for the building to function properly.

While we are closed (or any other time!), you can visit one of our awesome library neighbors! You can visit ANY library in the state of Connecticut and check out items there with your hometown library card. Check out this blog post for a list of some of our closest neighbors, along with a link to a list of all the libraries in Connecticut. Many of the libraries listed are Bibliomation libraries, which means that they already have your Southbury Library card information as a part of their system. Being added to non Bibliomation libraries is easy, too! It usually takes less than 5 minutes.
