Fill out an online library card application, and pick up your library card during certain off-site events! You can use your card for any of our online resources, or at any other public library in Connecticut. Once you fill out the form, you will get an email when your card is ready, with information about how to get started with online resources right away and how to pick up your physical card. When you do pick up your card, we will need to verify your Southbury address with a piece of mail, updated license, or anything else with your name and address on it.

Thank you for your continued support and patience during this difficult time as we recover from extreme damage caused by the flooding on August 18th & 19th. The Southbury Public Library, the “Heart of the Community,” will reopen as soon as possible. Please follow our website and social media accounts or the Town of Southbury’s website and social media accounts for the most up-to-date information.

Greetings! We want to update the public on the status of the Southbury Public Library. 

The basement is currently being cleaned out professionally. This is a huge undertaking and requires time and patience in order to mitigate health and safety concerns. The main floors of the library proper are secure and undamaged by flood waters. With the safety of our collection in mind, provisions are in place to moderate temperature and humidity in the building. Once the basement is clear, we can assess all the systems necessary for the building to function properly.

While we are closed (or any other time!), you can visit one of our awesome library neighbors! You can visit ANY library in the state of Connecticut and check out items there with your hometown library card. Check out this blog post for a list of some of our closest neighbors, along with a link to a list of all the libraries in Connecticut. Many of the libraries listed are Bibliomation libraries, which means that they already have your Southbury Library card information as a part of their system. Being added to non Bibliomation libraries is easy, too! It usually takes less than 5 minutes.

Check out some of our favorite online resources that you can access for free from home (or anywhere with an internet connection) with your Southbury Public Library card! Our favorites include: Kanopy, Consumer Reports Online, and Libby. While Kanopy and Consumer Reports Online require a Southbury Public Library card, Libby is available at many area libraries! Have you tried Kanopy Kids yet? It is a children's focused collection that is a part of the library's streaming streaming service Kanopy, which you can use to borrow movies and television shows instantly with your Southbury Public Library card (with no holds). Kanopy Kids items don't use up your main Kanopy Monthly Borrowing limit. Kanopy Kids includes a mix of recreational and education content (including history, science, and new languages). Content types include movies, TV series, and animated storybooks. Read on in this blog post to find out more information about Kanopy Kids and how to use it.
